The First Communion is the act of receiving Holy
Communion for the first time in a person’s life.
Usually it is the culmination of instructions
and catechism concerning the doctrine, nature,
and reality of the Eucharist. Pope Pius X (1903-1914)
determined the age at which the Catholic youth
could receive their first Holy Communion. According
to him, Catholics who have reached the age of
reason (generally regarded as the age of seven
or eight) could be admitted to the Holy Eucharist.
